Abdourahmane Diop - Biwid Afrika - U1CD-2003
A wonderful CD! (Jazzthetik 03/95)
Abdourahmane Diop was born the son of a Griot in Rufusque, Senegal. His music
is an individual creation of West African M'Balach, based on Griot Music
traditions. After living in Paris and New York, Diop moved to Berlin in 1993
where he has become a cult figure through his multi-cultural project,
"Trommelfieber." "Biwid Afrika" ("African Worlds") is an imaginative soundtrack
produced by Zeiss-Grossplanetarium Berlin about the Dogon people. The Dogon's
knowledge in the field of astrology continues to astound, raising new questions
in an ancient field. Their CD attempts to bring their audience closer to
the Dogon way of thinking, opening new paths to neighboring cultures by combining
their expertise in astronomy and ethnology. Dogon composer, Abdourahmane
Diop's accoustic journey stands on its own in the form of this fine soundtrack.
