Sayed Balaha & Egypt Stars - Hamada - U1CD-2007-2
Together with his excellent Orchestra, the Egypt Stars, Sayed Balaha's dance music is the finest recorded. (Halima 1/94) Sayed Balha is the king of the ultimate belly dance-grooves. (Deutscher Rolling Stone 08/97) Sayed Balaha became familiar with the complete universe of Arabic rhythms as a child. At age eight, he gave his first concert for Cairo Radio. It was a tremendous success, consequently leading to many more performances. Sayed's career led to collaborations with all the famous Oriental dancers - from Vivid Abdul to Soheir Saki. In 1977, he accompanied Farida Fahmy, star-dancer of the Reda Group, to San Francisco, where they performed until 1981. Sayed Balaha accompanied the most famous Oriental dancer, Nagua Fouad, for her German performances in Autumn, 1989. There, the Berlin Society of German-Arabic Cultural Exchange captured him as a teacher for Tabla and Oriental dance. Sayed Balaha's first Solo-CD in 1994 marked United One's first release and has become primary literature at the schools of Oriental dance across middle-Europe. After his move to Berlin, Sayed formed the group the Egypt Stars with fellow Egyptian musicians. In 1996, they recorded their debut album, "Hamada," utilizing the exciting accoustic possibilities of the band to embellish his own musical stories. In "Gharam" you can hear a South American melody. "Hani" is a new rendition of an old composition of Hani Mahani, a song Sayed recorded 15 years ago (published as "Raks Jihan" on the CD "Judy Redas Night Club Music"). "Hamada" also utilizes the vast technical possibilities in the recording to creatively expand the sounds in his music. A fine dance CD "Hamada" is a longplay that is accessible and interesting even outside Oriental dance circles. Tracklisting: Shirin / Bs Bs Ya Amar / Fi Jom Weleyla / Hopa Tito Balaha / Gharam / Amal / Hani / Hamada Personell: Sayed Balaha (all percussion instruments), Amal Zaid (voc), Magdy Zaid (acc, keyboards), Wissam Gibran (v), Mostafa Rafaat (nay) Guestmusicians : Hosam Shaker (canoon), Ahmet Kalifa ( sax) Recorded: 1996 at MK- Audio, Berlin Produced by Burghard Genz |
