Argile feat. Barry Sangaré - Idjo - BMV 3055-2 This Argile-album is an intercultural meeting focussing on the "n'goni", a traditional West-African hunters' bow-harp, performed by Barry Sangaré from Mali. Barry Sangaré was born 1959 in Dabara in the region of Wasoulu which is famous for its extraordinary rich culture (e.g. Oumou Sangaré is one of the most popular artists from the same family and the Wasoulu-tradition). Barry learnt to play his instrument from his father, a famous hunter and n'goni-player himself and later-on he was playing his instrument for a long period during traditional healing ceremonies. On this CD the n'goni-songs and -rhythms meet with musicians from India, Europe and USA. Indian percussionist Ramesh Shotham (worldwide well-known for his cooperation
with Rabih Abou-Khalil and the Karnataka College of Percussion) is adding
some fine work on Ghatam, Tavil & Kantira to the N'Goni sound, as
well as the American Charles Blackledge on drums and tablas. Afro-American
singer B.B.Thompson from Jackson/Mississippi is contributing with her
soulful voice, singing together with Barry Sangaré in his native African
language "Bambara". The track "Sungudubani" is featuring
also Sangaré as a master-Djembé-drummer and the German Dieter Weberpals
on the African traditional Peulh-flute. Extraordinary: the "hommage"
to Abdullah Ibrahim Dollar Brand's composition "Ishmael", bringing
together musicians from 4 different continents and religions, reflecting
on the lyrics of the 1st Sure of the Koran "Al Fatiha".
